I feel like that guy in the geico commercial, helping people to not turn into their parents. He is in the parking lot of stadium telling them " let's not talk about leaving the game, before we even get to the game."
Let's not talk about the draft till after the SB. LOL

Yeah, I realize it's not for everyone, but there has been a lot of speculation about the why & who goes and who we try to hang on to, and at what cost.

I'm wondering if Blanton is going to be a key guy for us in 2022. If so we'll have 2 years of good team control. Also there won't be a need to go overpay a FA addition.

Blanton has had a few nice games, but his playing time has been limited and it's that inexperience which keeps me from anointing him at TE2 just yet. There's also the possibility we lose Higbee to free agency following the 2023 season, so bringing in a quality free agent now and giving all of Mundts' snaps to Blanton should have us well prepared for the future at the position. With as much as McVay likes 12 personnel, Higbee & Njoku could be a brilliant pairing.
jmo.

Edit : I changed Higbee's free agency entry from 2022 to 2023, although Hig's could offer a major trade bait solution as well as quite a bit of CAP reduction after 2022 if he's moved.

I liked roster projections so thx for leading off. With that said I sure hope we don’t end up with 11 rookies. I don’t really know college prospects but I sure hope Jack Sanborn is a stud as ILB is our weakest link on defense.

I think a healthy Ernest Jones along with better use of Travon Howard will be the big difference, ... Reeder & Sanborn in rotation and all should be well imo.
My only starting rookie is at RG, and that won't likely occur until closer to mid-season, everyone else is a rotational or back-up player meant to boost depth.

That's one hell of a job @Riverumbbq and I'm a huge fan of Jamaree Salyer as well as some of the other picks. Michael Turk to replace Hekker, interesting and was enjoyable to read.

I appreciate the effort and you’re right IMO. It’s just nice to read something else and get a little distraction from all the Bengals love this week.

I had TE as one of my top draft needs.....until the last couple of weeks with Blanton.
His blocking has improved from non existent to ok. He has proven he can make plays and contribute in the pass game......how sweet was that flea flicker TE screen vs the Whiners.....very creative play.
Anyway, with a solid blocker that can be brought back in Mundt and a 2nd year talent in Harris coming back (both likely) I have removed TE from my draft list.
Higbee
Mundt
Blanton
Harris

Im fine with that group.

You are missing the other brown at LB

I think you are confusing ILB Ernest Jones with practice squad guy DE Earnest Brown IV. Jones was our 2021 3'rd round draft pick while DE Earnest Brown IV was our 2021 5'th round draft pick. Unfortunately, Brown IV also has the distinction of being the Rams only 2021 draft pick who was never activated to the 53 roster and remained on the P/S all season. 2021 draftees DE Earnest Brown IV, DT Bobby Brown & ILB Ernest Jones, ... it can all get confusing.
I left DE Brown IV off this roster as not only didn't I care for the pick last year, but he was beaten out at DE by Marquise Copeland who also didn't make my roster. I believe it's possible that Copeland could pass DT Hoecht on the 53 roster depth chart next season, although McVay hasn't made all that much use of his DE's the last couple of years, he's far more reliant on his OLB's & DT's.

Naw I was just confusing what position Brown played.

I think he still has a chance to be a DE because sometimes it takes a player a full year to become his own player.

McVay has already said that Jacob Harris will be groomed as a WR, not a 211 lbs. TE. Imo, Blanton is bigger and better than Mundt, will perform all of Mundt's duties and make his future need to the team obsolete. jmo.

I think Copeland is already ahead of Hoecht on the depth chart. Copeland has played a lot more than Hoecht down the stretch. The Jags game was the last time Hoecht saw regular season snaps on defense. Copeland was activated vs Tenn and has played on defense since.
Post season snaps: Hoecht-2 Copeland-25

Great observation ! :thumbsup1:

I couldn't find the room in this mock, but I would have really liked to have added a quality rotational pass rushing DE, ... maybe next year.

I'm excited that Blanton showed us something with his receptions, but I'm not overly sold on his ability to run block. I know the 49ers have a pretty good D but the Rams were running well in the 1st Q until Higs went out. They probably had 2/3 of their rushing yards in the 1st Q alone. Couldnt do anything after Higs went out.
Switching gears though, Evan Engram was on McVay radar in that '17 draft, and they ended up settling for Everett. Now that Engram is a FA (At least I think he is) I wonder if they go get him now on the cheaper side. I'm obviously with you on Njoku being the #1 target, but Engram could be a wild card here

If Spotrac is correct that the future CAP marketing dollars are similar between Njoku & Engram, I also go with Njoku, it's just difficult to trust in these forecasts. Engram isn't a bad 2'nd choice imo.
