1. Its not going to take more than one random thought to identify the primary reason that the Rams are 2-3. The OL is not functional, not competitive. I'll talk about a few other issues, but make no mistake...the OL is 90% of the problem right now.

2. It is also fair to note that the OL's deficiencies are revealing the lack of elite talent at the skill positions, beyond Cooper Kupp.

3. Our RBs are mediocre at best. Both missed holes and opportunities to make some plays today. Our productivity in the running game is non-existent.

4. The current WR2 (Allen Robinson) and WR3 (Ben Skowronek) are clearly a downgrade from Odell Beckham, Jr./Robert Woods and Van Jefferson.

5. Finally a Tutu Atwell sighting!!!! (brief and pretty much wasted, though it was).

6. Matthew Stafford does not look comfortable in the pocket. Hardly surprising, given that he's now been sacked 21 times and pressured (at least - final numbers from today pending) 49 times in 5 games. He was sacked only 30 times and pressured 102 times in 17 games last season.

7. If you think the problem is Stafford's elbow, or just feel inclined to blame him due to a bad pass here and there, read No. 6 again.

8. Allen Robinson is not what we need now. If our OL was playing like has in the past, I think he could be a guy who would do some damage running routes from the outside. Right now, though, we need quicker guys who can hurt a defense with quick hits and YAC. He's not that guy.

9. I feel like our offense looks better when running tempo (not good, but better). Perhaps more of that?

10. David Edwards goes down again (another concussion), but he was a weak link from the first passing play.

11. Bobby Evans is not the answer. He looks so lost out there.

12. Time to give Oday Aboushi a try? Or, perhaps, if Brian Allen comes back, give Jeremiah Kolone a shot at OG? Not very enticing options.

13. So is there a path out of this mess? Let me see if I can muster up enough optimism to propose one...

14. First... gotta win next week against Carolina. We simply can't miss the opportunity to get a W against a team like the Panthers.

15. After that, we have a bye week. A much-needed bye week... and some potential reinforcements (Allen, Jefferson, Corbett, Fuller...).

16. Then, its the 49ers again. Can we get our act together to be ready for them in 3 weeks? That's our chance to get back into the divisional race.

17. I feel very good about the defense's performance overall today, but they just can't seem to take the ball away. Maybe they need a bit of luck, too? We forced two fumbles on Cooper Rush sacks... both bounced right into the arms of Cowboy players. When things are bad, a nice bounce or two can mean so much.

18. Is the erosion of our talent base beyond the top stars the price we're paying for last year's all-in approach? Maybe so. I'll never regret it, though.

19. Does the franchise try to wheel-and-deal again this year, or will there come a point at which we become resigned to ride it out until next offseason before reloading for another run? That's the question that I can't seem to avoid pondering.

20. I have to confess.... apart from a few moments, I have not enjoyed watching Rams football this year. I didn't expect to feel that way so soon after a championship, but here we are. But I'm not going anywhere. I've endured a lot worse, as has any Rams fan who's followed the team for more than 5 years. I'll still be here when things turn around.

I have zero confidence in their ability to beat the Niners at this point. Defensively we're letting everybody do the one thing they are good at...short, quick passes with a solid run game.

Offensively, we cannot move the ball with any consistency and we do not make enough big plays. Maybe if VJ is back and the O-line is a bit healthier...?

But as of today, no way.

I fail to see how anyone could have watched today's performance on the defensive side and concluded that it was not good enough to beat many teams if our offense was performing at a competent level. A week ago... that same defense held the 49ers to 17 points.

Its not the defense's fault.

Agreed.

The defense only gave up, what, 15 points today?

the defense isnt playing bad but the defense isnt playing complimentary to the offense. The long stretches of time without the ball means our already struggling offense never gets any TOP to get into a groove or experiment with the playbook. IF we had a competent running or passing game, the length of opposing offensive drives wouldnt matter as much. But as of now, yes the time our D stays on the field is absolutely hurting the offense, on top of the porous O-Line and lack of playmakers.

And i forgot to mention, not forcing any turnovers to put the O in better field position. At least Staleys D could score whenever the O would stall.

I gotta say I feel the exact same way. I haven't enjoyed a single game. Just boring football. Offense can't do shit, the defense allows long drives all game. There's just nothing to get excited about this season.

This. Statistically, the D looks fine. But they don't make any game turning plays. And with a struggling offense, we need that right now.

I believe Brycen Hopkins returns from suspension this week, and the grapevine says that he'll be leading us to victory over Carolina. Since we apparently don't have a #2 or #3 WR worth a damn, McVay will revert back to playing some 12 Personnel, even with Tutu actually pulling in 2 long receptions. The gatorade delivery kids will hold an intervention forcing Carberry to start Aboushi at RG while moving Alaric Jackson over to LG, giving Noteboom some much needed confidence after dealing with Edwards/Evans these last 5 games. Roger Carter will finally get called up to help with our sorely lacking blocking skills, as a TE/FB as well as give a boost to our struggling Special Teams.
By the way, please excuse the black & white BLUE font.

Always look forward to reading your post-game thoughts.
Did you realize that only 1 of our RB's missed holes rushing the ball? Henderson is not listed as having any rushes today, kinda crazy.

Ok I'll argue that. Even without our #2-4 corners we're still middle of the pack against the pass. We have a very good pass rush if we give them an extra second.

Honestly, Fisher could have developed a better defensive game plan to pack the box and force Rush to beat us with his arm. Should have been the same plan with the niners and their back up o line. Dallas was on their second and third string too.

On offense, why are we not using more diverse run looks? If our protection sucks and is a weakness, why do we keep going back to it?

Sometimes McVay and crew just continue to overthink game plans.

True, but he seemed to have run the wrong way on a couple of his receptions.

Looking again at this OL...

LT Noteboom: it's been ugly at times but he's faced some tough competition. Still not sure he's a long term LT, he's going to need to play a full season but right now he's not my biggest concern. We're gonna have to see more from him bottom line to include improvement vs SF.

LG: if Edwards is out I guess it's not the end of the world. He wasn't exactly playing well for us, in fact I figure a questionable guy like Aboushi might be able to give us that. Bigger issue of course is that we have a weakness here and that Evans has compromising photos of the coaching staff.

C: assuming we get Allen back. Can't believe I'm pining for Allen think I'm gonna need a shower. No idea how long we have him but this should help us a ton.

RG Jackson: Jackson smash.

RT Havenstein: how these two on the right are not a preferred run game duo I have zero idea.

Near future: vs Carolina these guys should be able to do their jobs so I expect a good outing and some confidence building.

Armageddon: vs SF we will be largely judged in terms of whether we have any hope or if we should all retreat to @Loyal's fallout shelter and eat all his good MREs.

I do have to agree on this one. We are down corners we are at the bottom in pressures and sacks Floyd doesn't even have a sack I believe yet we are still semi on these games and the could very easily be 35-10 or 42-10 the defense had been good with no corners and no pass rush they could stand to improve tackling but I am repeating like a parrot they must add an impactful edge. That will
ake these current corners better as well as our starting corners. It can help lead to rushed throws leading to ints or strip sacks 4 and outs getting an anemic offense more possessions til we hopefully figure it out. I'd put what I had to into getting a elite edge.
Jourdan just says on a tweet she can see/feel change coming. This almost reminds me of the Marcus Peters flurry of trades.

we gonna be a catty prick about it all or form a coherent counter-argument?
I’m good with being a catty prick when responding to a post as nonsensical as that one.

Defense is down three starters.. it’s top 2 backup CBs.. and it’s best edge is playing hurt… and they have to do more than holding the other team to one TD.

The D basically gave up 9 points.. and the Rams had more time of possession.

The defense was so much better than the offense in that game that it’s high comedy to expect more out of that unit.

And that’s why I think your post was a joke.

good observations. my point is, even when healthy and had all stars, the scheme morris runs is notorious for allowing opposing teams to stay on the field wayy too long (which puts more pressure on a offense), give wayy too much room to WRS (and we get gashed by YAC monsters like Samuels and Davante Adams) and dont force enough turnovers to help a stagnant offense. Factor that in with this years defense full of backups appearing to be less disciplined and talented with tackling and you get a defense that CAN improve. It starts with the DC, irregardless of how many starters are out.

The Rams had more TOP this week and last week.

Give him the personnel and they attack more.

And, more importantly.. the defense did its job the last two weeks. Period.
